Our Vision
AFOA Canada is the centre for excellence, information, and certification in Indigenous management.
AFOA Canada was founded as a not-for-profit association in 1999 to support Indigenous people in managing and governing their communities and organizations through a focus on enhancing management, finance and governance practices and skills.
After twenty years in operation, AFOA Canada has positioned itself as the top and trusted resource for Indigenous management, finance and governance in Canada. This has been done by focusing on several key issues; adding value to our membership, sharing the stories of the incredible work being done in our Indigenous communities, and creating an environment where those who lead in their fields can continue to innovate and create change.
AFOA Canada is the only organization in Canada that focuses on the capacity development and day-to-day needs of Indigenous professionals who are working in all areas of management, finance, band administration, leadership, and program management.
AFOA Canada understands that one of the keys to successful self-determination and economic prosperity — creating a better life for Canada’s Indigenous people, and a vibrant future for the next generation — is improving the management and leadership skills of those responsible for the stewardship of Indigenous resources.
