Bawating Building Science is an Indigenous-owned and run consulting firm, providing premium building science consulting services.
Trevor Trainor is the President of Bawating Building Science. He is a member of the Thessalon First Nation and has established himself as an expert in design, analysis and research related to building enclosure systems. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to every level of the design and construction process. In addition to his experience as a custom home builder, he has a Master of Applied Science degree and over 10 years experience as a building science consultant and researcher. He has been involved in the planning and execution of dozens of enclosure-related research projects and hydrothermal modeling studies and hundreds of forensic investigations, enclosure design projects, enclosure testing and construction quality review projects.
Bawating Building Science collaborates with Indigenous communities, government agencies, architects, design-build firms and other building industry professionals to help facilitate the development of healthy, durable and efficient buildings. We look to fulfil this vision through three pathways:
1) Providing exception building science consulting services including building enclosure design, site review, commissioning and energy and sustainability services
2) Developing and implementing research strategies to further our understanding of the unique needs and challenges of each community
3) Promoting the principles of building science to Indigenous youth and industry stakeholders through education
We strive to provide these services using the principles of ‘two-eyed seeing‘ – utilizing both traditional, local knowledge and modern scientific approaches to problem solving.
