Cam is Red River Métis, born and raised in Kenora, Ontario. He has a wide variety of professional and lived experience that has helped to not only inform his work but mould his experience and unique perspective. For the past 15 years, he has used that experience to stand up for his community, neighbours, and his clients.
He spent nine years working in the New Democratic Party Caucus in Ottawa, working for three different Members of Parliament. He has extensive experience working in the Natural Resources, Education, and Indigenous Rights portfolios, including in the policy development process. Among his proudest achievements was being involved with the development and drafting of the UNDRIP legislation brought forward by MP Romeo Saganash, the majority of which became the legislation passed by the Government of Canada.
Since leaving Parliament Hill in 2018, Cam has been working in the public affairs space. He has supported clients in a range of sectors, including agricultural, Fintech, natural resources, information technology, Indigenous governments, post-secondary education, labour, and non-profits. He has put this experience to work in support of clients like Agnico Eagle Mines, the Egg Farmers of Canada, Dun & Bradstreet, Fertilizer Canada, PayPal, Growcer, and Consumer Health Products of Canada. Among his current clients, he has been working directly with Xplore Inc., supporting their engagement and outreach activities with Indigenous governments in Ontario, New Brunswick and Alberta for the past two years.
He started his professional life teaching in Treaty Three Territory and Central Ontario. He later moved into the federal civil service, working in program administration, including the management and administration of employment and training programs, while working closely with applicants and service providers. Cam is a graduate of Lakehead University, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and a minor in History, and a Bachelor of Education. He is married to his better half, Allison, and is father to their daughter Lorraine
