Understanding Intellectual Property Awareness & Use by Indigenous Businesses
Report coming Summer 2021
Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), along with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) – Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique Canada (ISDE), have been working on a report, Understanding Intellectual Property Awareness and Use by Indigenous Businesses: The 2019 Intellectual Property Survey of Indigenous Businesses.
This report is based on a survey of 1,100 Inuit, First Nations, and Métis businesses from across Canada, exploring their experiences with and awareness of IP. The report reveals how it is used in their businesses, as well as a preliminary exploration of the use of Traditional Knowledge in Indigenous businesses.
The findings of this research will be used to help governments and Indigenous entrepreneurs themselves better understand the opportunities and challenges associated with IP for Indigenous businesses.
