Send in Your Nomination
Deadline: PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINE NOTED ON THE NOMINATION FORM.
Nominations for the 2013 Aboriginal Business Hall of Fame will close on June 30, 2012.
Eligibility:
First Nation (Status or Non-Status), Métis or Inuit business leaders who have built a full and rich career are eligible for nomination. Anyone above the age of 18 is eligible to submit a nomination. Inductees are recognized annually at the CCAB’s Annual Toronto Gala; nominees must be available to attend the Gala. Nominators should make their submission with the nominee’s knowledge.
Reporting Guidelines and Selection:
1) Candidates are deemed ineligible if they have an existing formal relationship with CCAB (e.g. Board of Directors, Board of Governors, Corporate Sponsor, etc.)
2) Aboriginal persons working in professional roles with non-Aboriginal owned companies may be considered. In this case, nominations need to strongly emphasize how the nominee has contributed to prosperity in Aboriginal communities beyond their paid and professional role.
3) The nomination should be 5 to 10 pages long. Provide links to sources of confirming or further information on the nominee. Use point form and attach the nominee’s resume if available, however, if attaching a resume, the application form must still be completed. Where possible, please present the quantifiable outcomes of the nominations work i.e. # of community members employed.
4) Nomination forms may be delivered by email, fax, courier, or in person to CCAB by the deadline. Feel free to attach additional information but complete the application form in full.
5) Written references can be submitted along with the nomination form or references can be listed on the nomination form and will be contacted by CCAB. A minimum of two references are required to advance a nomination.
6) Selection Process
i. Inductees are chosen by a Selection Committee through majority vote. ii. Nominations received by the deadline are reviewed by CCAB staff for compliance with eligibility. In the case where a nomination is deemed ineligible, the nominator will be notified by CCAB staff. CCAB staff reviews the nomination for evidence of the following: i. Nominations demonstrate the nominees’ contributions both as business persons and as community members through volunteerism and participation in initiatives not directly related to their success as business persons. ii. Nominations present business leaders who have built a full and rich career over many years; a nominee with a lifetime of achievement is preferred. The nomination of a younger person must demonstrate an exceptional and quantifiable contribution to the Aboriginal community. iii. Though there are many accomplished Aboriginal business people, the ABHF seeks to recognize leaders whose impact has had a direct impact on an (the) Aboriginal community. iv. Nominees are entrepreneurs or entrepreneurial leaders of Aboriginal owned initiatives. Nominations for persons who have made their impact through professional roles with larger Canadian companies, must demonstrate an exceptional and quantifiable contribution to the Aboriginal community beyond their contribution through their employer.
iii. A summary is developed for each eligible nomination and references, if not submitted with the nomination, are contacted by CCAB. There is a standard reference interview form. iv. Summaries, along with the full nomination and references, are presented to each member of the Selection Committee. v. The Selection Committee members review the full application, including referee feedback, in advance of making their selections.
7) Following the selection of inductees for any year, the nominators of unsuccessful nominations are notified within two weeks.
8) Selected nominations are contacted by the Selection Committee chair, within one week of selection to confirm their acceptance and ability to attend the Annual Toronto Gala where inductees are recognized.
9) Inductee names may be publically announced shortly after their notification and the notification of unsuccessful nominations.
10) Unsuccessful nominations will be considered for 2 additional years.
