Education is the key to the future and a decent quality of life. Financial support of education is the means to making that happen.
The Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth (FAAY) is a national scholarship and bursary program administered by CCAB that responds to the critical need to assist Aboriginal high school and post secondary students with bursaries and scholarships — through the generous support of program sponsors.
Since its inception, FAAY has awarded over $2.9 million to First Nation, Inuit and Métis students.

"I won the scholarship through CCAB's Foundation for the Advancement for Aboriginal Youth in 2010, and it also got me the internship with the Bank of Montreal... My overall experience has been a great one, and it wouldn't have been possible without Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business." Sydney Paul, University of New Brunswick, BBA, Maliseet.

Selection Process:
Scholarship and bursary award winners are chosen by a selection committee made up of at least two representatives of each FAAY sponsor. Staff of CCAB do not participate in the decision making process. Incomplete and/or late applications are disqualified from the competition without exception.
- Applications (including all mandatory documents) are delivered by mail, courier, or in person to CCAB for processing for the selection committee to review. The firm deadline for all materials to reach CCAB is October 15 every year which means the applications must be postmarked on or before this date. Faxed or emailed applications are not accepted. Documentation being sent to CCAB directly on behalf of applicants must be received by the deadline as well.
- One to two representatives from each sponsor spends 3-4 hours on Selection Day “rolling up their sleeves” to review the applications and hand pick the students to fund. Selection Day is normally held in late November.
- Successful applicants are contacted within 2 weeks of the selection committee’s meeting and asked to submit a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and thank you letter addressed to the sponsors respectively. SINs are required by Revenue Canada because scholarships and bursaries are deemed to be income. CCAB mails T4As to students in February.
- Upon receipt of SINs and letters, we will make every attempt to quickly courier cheques to students, however please allow at least 4 weeks for delivery.
- Unsuccessful applicants are notified by the end of December.
- CCAB and the FAAY sponsors promote scholarships and bursaries awarded (print material, website, press releases, posters, brochures, etc.)
