Application for FAAY

Eligibility:

Canadian residents, of First Nation (Status or Non-Status), Métis or Inuit heritage and attending either high school or a post-secondary institute full-time and within Canada are eligible to apply for financial support. Mature students and adult education programs are included.

The FAAY Selection Committee looks for:

  1. Demonstrated financial need;
  2. Academic and career commitment;
  3. Contributions to family and community; and
  4. Leadership and role model qualities.

Selection Process:

Scholarship and bursary award winners are chosen by a selection committee made up of at least two representatives of each FAAY sponsor. Staff of CCAB do not participate in the decision making process. Incomplete and/or late applications are disqualified from the competition without exception.

  1. Applications (including all mandatory documents) are delivered by mail, courier, or in person to CCAB for processing for the selection committee to review. The firm deadline for all materials to reach CCAB is October 15 every year which means the applications must be postmarked on or before this date. Faxed or emailed applications are not accepted. Documentation being sent to CCAB directly on behalf of applicants must be received by the deadline as well.
  2. One to two representatives from each sponsor spends 3-4 hours on Selection Day “rolling up their sleeves” to review the applications and hand pick the students to fund. Selection Day is normally held in late November.
  3. Successful applicants are contacted within 2 weeks of the selection committee’s meeting and asked to submit a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and thank you letter addressed to the sponsors respectively. SINs are required by Revenue Canada because scholarships and bursaries are deemed to be income. CCAB mails T4As to students in February.
  4. Upon receipt of SINs and letters, we will make every attempt to quickly courier cheques to students, however please allow at least 4 weeks for delivery.
  5. Unsuccessful applicants are notified by the end of January.
  6. CCAB and the FAAY sponsors promote scholarships and bursaries awarded (print material, website, press releases, posters, brochures, etc.)

How to Apply:
